That's not a one-off finding either — a 2017 study by Fujitsu Siemens Computers found that two monitors boosted productivity by 25% over a single-monitor setup, with three-monitor setups pushing that up to 35.5%.
It's not just about raw output, either. Wichita State University researchers reported that multiple monitors improved performance regardless of screen size, and that users found dual monitors noticeably more efficient and less frustrating than working off one screen, with 98% of participants saying they preferred the dual setup.
And once people get used to it, they don't want to go back: in one workstation study, 78.8% of multi-monitor users said switching back to a single screen would hurt their productivity.
Why It Works
The logic is simple. More screen space means more information visible at once, so you spend less time switching between windows and hunting for the right document, tab, or app. Whether you're comparing a lecture slide deck against your notes, referencing a spreadsheet while writing a report, or keeping a chat open while you work, a second screen removes the constant shuffling that eats up your day.
For School, Not Just Work
